TUTORIAL: Scrabble Tile Pendants

This tutorial is for those who want to make an instant masterpiece with a large group.

We made scrabble tile pendant necklaces recently during our Stake Beehive Conference. It was a perfect "quick and easy" craft for our group of 80+ girls and leaders.

SUPPLIES

• Scrabble Tiles
• Resin Drop Stickers (I purchased mine from Dew Supplies on Etsy)
• Mod Podge
• Super Glue
• Small Jewelry Bails
• Ball Chains

PREPARATION

To help save on time, I put together "kits" for each young woman. That way they could simply grab a kit and go to work. I placed the following items into a snack sized ziplock bag: instuctions, scrabble tile, bail, ball chain, and resin sticker. The Mod Podge, and super glue were placed at their work space - along with some baby wipes for their fingers. :)

This is how we made ours:

1. Carefully remove the protective backing from the resin sticker, do not touch the sticky side.
2. Press over the image you want to use.
3. Trim down the image, cutting right up along the edge of the sticker.
4. Using your finger, spread a layer of Mod Podge over the entire backside of the scrabble tile (make sure to spread all the way to the sides). Center on the non-letter side of your Scrabble tile (make sure the back letter is facing upwards) and press into place. Press and hold the image on top of the Scrabble tile for several minutes to create a tight bond. Let dry fully for at least 15 minutes.
5. Flip your Scrabble tile over so the back is facing you. Using Super Glue, carefully center your bail along the top edge of your tile and press into place. Let dry. It'll be quick!
6. Thread ball chain, using the end without the clasp, through bail. Secure the clasp.
7. All done!

Stand in Holy Places

I am currently serving in the stake young women presidency. Last night we invited the young women presidents from each ward, our yw camp director, and our priesthood leaders to enjoy a meal, an overview of the coming year, and join in a discussion/share. We as a presidency would have loved to have had more time with them. Such an incredible group with fabulous ideas, as well as great questions and insights pertaining to the young women program and those we have been called to serve.

I put together a 2013 youth theme gift (have you noticed it is being referred to as "youth theme" instead of "mutual theme"?) for each ward in our stake. I used the image I created when the theme was first announced.

I took a few minutes to explain why I chose Moroni instead of the temple spires. Unfortunately my nerves took over and I am not sure what I actually said. Why does that happen?!

Anyways, in a nutshell, this is the idea I was trying to get across:

I am blessed to be serving with such amazing women. Laurie is one of them. She gave each of us a vinyl cut-out of the youth theme for the year along with this quote from Elaine S. Dalton, "It is the time to help make our homes places where the spirit can dwell. it is the time to seek places where the spirit can be present. Even in the use of technology, it is the time to 'stand ye in holy places and be not moved'"

Note: the black vinyl flowers on my wall are not part of the theme. :)  This would be a wonderful gift for each of the youth. Something to place on their bedroom and/or bathroom mirrors. A reminder throughout the year - and beyond.

If you have the connections, plan a little outing for your class.

Let them see first hand what bees do.

Follow up by talking about what is means to be part of the Beehive class...

Prepare a batch of rose petal jelly (possibly fresh bread).

When we were growing up one of my favorite family activities was watching reel-to-reel home movies.  I can still hear the slight clicking sound it used to make.  In addition to reels of home movies, my parents had a couple reels of Laurel and Hardy movies I loved to watch.  I wonder where all of those reels are hiding?  Would be such a fun treasure to find, along with the family movies of course.  :)

Arise and Shine Forth Slap Bracelet

Do you remember when the Slap Bracelets were introduced in the late 80's?  Remember how much fun they were?  We would start with a stiff, flat bracelet.  Slap it across our wrist - cringing for fear of it hurting, but to our surprise it never did.  Then remove it.  Snap it open.  Slap in on again!  Then repeat.  Snap.  Slap.  Repeat.  Snap.  Slap.  Repeat.  Oh the fun!

Her friend Garrett's birthday is this weekend. He was having so much fun slapping the bracelet on and off... guess what is being added to his gift?  :)  Maddy said the others kept asking her where she got it, and wanted one for themselves.  :)
